I’m usually up quite late working and because it’s the summer, I like to keep my window open. I’ve discovered this is a very bad idea because for some reason, my monitor seems to lure in moths from the darkness, moths the size of BATS! You don’t believe me, well lucky I had a camera handy when I encountered one of these beasts.
So think of how I feel, sitting in a dark room, headphones in and nothing but the depressing glow from my monitor, when all of a sudden one of those flys into my head trying to pick a fight. I’m not one to run away from a moth duel so I tried to fight it, I got a punch in but then it bit me in the face (yes, they can do that). I wasn’t doing well, it had the clear advantage of aerial combat and speed so I went for sneaky tactics.
This advice could save your life one day, here’s how I won the fight against the giant bat moth. Turn out all the lights, they love it and will fly around trying to find it, also I don’t think they have night vision. Turn on an open top lamp with an exposed bulb, the moth will fly right into it and get burnt, then fall into the bowl around the base of the lamp, as it tries to fly out, it will fly into the bulb again, eventually burning itself to death, just like in the directors cut of A Bugs Life.
Thank you Ikea, your lamp helped me slay this beast of the night.
